RICE GRAIN UPMA (VARI NOOKA UPMA)



Ingredients:

  • Rice grain (Rice suji/varinooka) - 1 cup
  • Water - 3 cups
  • Onions (Slices) - 3
  • Red chillies -1
  • Green chillies - 6 (If you want less spice then reduce the green chillies)
  • chana dal - 1 tbsp
  • Urad dal - 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds (Aavalu) - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds (Jeera, Jeelakarra) - 1/2 tsp
  • Ginger (finely chopped) - 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 string
  • Salt - to taste


Method:
  • Heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds, and let it splutter then add cumin seeds, Red chilli, green chillies, chana dal and urd dal and fry well.
  • Add chopped onions and  Saute them well.
  • Now add 3 cups of water and salt and bring it to boil.
  • When the water starts to boiling, then add rice sooji and keep stirring for 2-3 min.
  • Now close the lid and cook in low flame for 7-8 min or until it turns soft.
  • This hot Rice sooji upma serve with any pickle, yogurt., coconut chutney.
